ICT tools in the classroom
for reducing Early School Leaving

Course Summary

This course is intended for any teacher/educator desiring to use a variety of ICT tools to improve the learning process and especially to help students be more confident and active in the classroom.  In this way teachers will have one additional tool to reduce early school leaving at their organizations. Moreover, the course intends to improve the professional skills of participants and facilitate the learning process.

In particular, the course focuses on the students of low social/economic/other background as minorities’ students, immigrants, refugees and students with learning disabilities trying to integrate and keep them in the classroom. The content of the course demonstrates digital tools (Edmodo, Socrative, Flibgrid and others) that will help students to learn in different ways and personalize the learning procedure according to their individual needs and skills. Trainees will also learn about how to share their work in open-source web platforms, use free educational material and apps and basic cyber security instructions.

Target Group

Teachers (pre-school, primary, secondary, vocational, adult, special needs), teacher trainers, careers officers, educational counselors and other professional interested in education, learning and computer science.

Objectives

  • Familiarize teachers/educators with current educational trends and how digital tools can fulfill these trends and be applied in the classroom.
  • Familiarize teachers/educators with the use and functions of specific digital tools such as Edmodo, Socrative and Flipgrid.
  • Provide teachers with the skills and knowledge necessary to create and implement their own educational content with these tools, so as to provide different educational approaches that fit the individual needs of their students.
  • Allow teachers to use open-source web platforms, for sharing their ideas and work.
  • Provide teachers with the essential skill to integrate cyber security in the classroom.
  • Allow teachers to share ideas and cultural differences with other nationalities from the EU

Methodology

Project Based Learning: Teachers will form groups of 2-3 persons according to their teaching subject (1 team of Chemistry teachers, another team of history teachers and so on). Each team will use one PC and create small projects in order to create educational content or modules for their lessons. In this way we will draw on the existing knowledge and experience of the trainees combining it with the effectiveness of collaboration to achieve the final learning outcomes.

Learning by doing: the trainees will actively engage in using the digital tools, experimenting constantly with the environment and functions of these tools, under the guidance of the educators.

Formative assessment: during the course the trainers will estimate the level of trainees and adjust the content of the course according to the individual needs of the trainees.

Course Fees:

560 euros for a 7-day course: includes registration and course fees, course educational material, administration and organizational fees, Athens center guided tour, Certificate of Attendance and Euro pass certification (upon request).

There is also the ability to adapt this course for a 5-day period of time

Preparation

Trainees will receive a questionnaire, which will provide information on their teaching subject, teaching background, qualifications, and previous experience with ICT tools and platforms.

Follow up

Trainees will be supported by the e-Nable Greece Erasmus+ trainees Facebook Group. The administrators of the Group will give instant feedback to any trainees’ question or problem. Through this group e-Nable Greece commits itself to monitor the efforts of course trainees using these tools in their classrooms.

In addition, trainees will be provided the educational material of the course in copies and in digital files. This material may be used by the trainees for presentation to their own organizations in order to generate the interest of their colleagues.
